Malta’s capital city Valletta is the 2018 European Capital of Culture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as are Malta’s famous Megalithic Temples and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum. Valletta is described by UNESCO as “one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world.” Valletta has also been listed in CNN’s 20 most beautiful World Heritage Sites.

The following are a some of the most popular scheduled excursions we offer in English. These scheduled excursions run on fixed days of the week at the quoted prices for individuals wishing to join other individuals also visiting the Maltese islands. Quoted prices include return hotel transport, professional licensed guides in a number of languages and entrances to the sites mentioned. Lunch and return ferry tickets are also included in the price where specifically stated.

Valletta and the Malta Experience audiovisual show

Coastal View (15)Our guided tour through the vibrant streets of Valletta will allow you to discover the beauty and charm of the fortified city built by the Knights in 1566. The Order of St. John ruled over the islands for 268 years and left a unique cultural legacy of which Valletta is the prime example. We first enjoy a breathtaking view of the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barracca Gardens. Then we visit St. John’s Co-Cathedral, including the Caravaggio masterpieces in the Oratory, the Flemish tapestries and the church museum. The Co-Cathedral houses one of the most beautiful marble inlaid floors in the world.

Going down Republic Street you will walk past the Grand Masters’ Palace and the recently restored St. George’s Square before watching the Malta Experience, an audiovisual show where Malta’s history throughout the centuries is brought back to life.

 

 

Mdina

MaltaToday’s excursion takes us to the central part of Malta, dominated by the medieval fortified city of Mdina, Malta’s former capital city. The narrow, winding streets, dating back to medieval times, lead to the imposing bastions, commanding a magnificent panorama of the island. On the way there, you will discover different styles of architecture, including Siculo-Norman palaces and other baroque buildings of great historical importance. Time stands still in this ‘Silent City’ which is a film-maker’s paradise.

Leaving Mdina through Greeks’ Gate, we stop at the early Christian catacombs in Rabat before proceeding to the cliffs at Dingli. After lunch we will visit the San Anton botanical gardens situated near the Presidential Palace, which you will be able to admire from outside. We shall also spend time at the crafts centre at Ta’ Qali. At the end of the tour, allow us to astound you with Mosta’s majestic dome, one of Europe’s largest.

 

 

Mdina

The guide will lead you around the streets of the city and the waterfront where the Knights of Malta first settled in 1530. Drive around the fortifications of Valletta, Malta’s capital city, built after the Great Siege of 1565 and later to Mdina which is situated at the centre of the island. The highlight of the tour is a walk around the old capital city at night, beautifully lit, creating a quaint, unique atmosphere where time stood still. From the ramparts of Mdina you will be able to see practically half of the island sparkling in front of your eyes.

 

 

 

Three Cities

Birgu Panoramic View (13)Discover the Grand Harbour area opposite Valletta known as the Three Cities – Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea, where the Knights of St. John first settled in 1530. Driving past Cospicua we reach Vittoriosa for a walking tour through the narrow streets in the shade of historic buildings, including the first auberges of the various langues of the Order. At the Vittoriosa waterfront we take a typical harbour boat (dghajsa) for a tour of the colourful harbour creeks.

From the Senglea Garden, situated at the tip of the peninsula, enjoy a stunning 360° view of the Grand Harbour, including the impressive Fort Sant Angelo from where Grand Master La Valette led the defence of the island during the Great Siege of 1565.

Malta National Aquarium (4)A unique opportunity to discover the history and culture of the islands through the eyes of a falcon filmed in 3D. The legendary ‘Maltese’ falcon takes you on a spectacular flight through time. Soaring over the scenic views, it leads you to discover the most important locations and periods that have transformed this archipelago into a little gem.

Discover the island like no one has ever seen it before and experience the feeling through the ‘new generation’ 5D cinema effects. Some free time will be given in Valletta. Take the coach again and enjoy the afternoon at the Malta National Aquarium. The aquarium has more than 26 display tanks with Mediterranean fish, commonly found in Maltese waters, together with replicas of historical artefacts one can find in the seas around us. All tanks are expertly themed to replicate the underwater environment. Visitors are able to go through a watertunnel so that they can enjoy the fish at a much closer range.

 

 

Harbour Cruise

Fungus Rock - Dwejra (5)Gozo with a difference as seen at sunset when you can enjoy the serenity and natural beauty of Malta’s sister island. The tour starts with a visit to the Ggantija Temples. The megaliths are the first examples of built architecture and the world’s oldest freestanding monuments. They are considerably older than the Pyramids of Egypt. We then walk around the citadel situated in the centre of the island, from whose walls you can admire the soft hues of Gozo’s undulating countryside. As the day draws to a close we go down the spectacular winding road to Dwejra, the ideal location for watching the sun set below the horizon. To round off  the evening, a relaxing dinner in one of Gozo’s restaurants.

 

 

 

 

Fun at Playmobil – for the young at heart

1A tour aimed mainly at families with children. This is Playmobil’s second largest factory worldwide and the only production plant where one can actually see the toys being made. After a guided tour of the production areas, you can enjoy the Playmobil Funpark and refreshments at the cafeteria.

The production area is for children over 6 years. The play area is for children over 3 years. A commentary in English is available on demand. Clients are requested to wear sports shoes.

 

 

 

 

The Other Malta – from a Palazzo to Wine Cellars

This will be followed by visits to the medieval citadel in Victoria, the fjord-like bay at Xlendi and Dwejra. Gozo is well known for its crafts, particularly handmade lace and knitted garments. Combining lively historical re-enactments with expert commentary, this tour offers you an insight into the life of a late 19th century Victorian garrison in this coastal fort. You can witness the operation of the huge cannon, how the fort was defended and how communications were maintained with nearby forts. You are also given the opportunity to actually fire a cannon. Magical Nightfall Experience – Movies and legends

Relax and discover the unique atmosphere of the European Capital of Culture 2018 – Valletta by night. Enter Through the antique Victorian Gate that is very much off the normal beaten track and together with our guide explore the hidden streets of the city whilst being enchanted by legends about noblemen who inhabited the many stately baroque buildings that you will admire.

Before leading you to St. Barbara Bastions for an unusual breathtaking view of the night time Grand Harbour we will stop in one of Valletta’s quaint bars where some wine and Maltese snacks will be served (included in price). Towards the end of this experience we discover the Waterfront at Vittoriosa with its backdrop of the harbour lights of Valletta glittering across the waterway.

Interested in films? During this tour you will be able to follow the footsteps of various well known stars who featured in such films as “Midnight Express”, “Gladiator” and “Count of Monte Cristo”. We are sure you will now understand why Malta is also called “The Hollywood of the Mediterranean”!!

 

 

Marsaxlokk Market and Blue Grotto

Traditional Maltese Boat - Luzzu (117)The idyllic fishing village of Marsaxlokk with its colourful luzzus and unique character make the unrivalled setting for the local market. This is the perfect place to spend a Sunday morning, where you can rub your shoulders with the locals as you browse through the various stalls. We continue our tour with a visit to the Blue Grotto (weather permitting – boat price not included) and the nearby caves. Admire the whole expanse of the blue Mediterranean and the islet of Filfla.

Later our guide will help you explore one of Malta’s unspoilt villages. From the main square, the hub of the village with its parish church and band club, you will be led through a maze of winding narrow streets that all have a story to be told.

After a twenty-minute ferry crossing , on setting foot in Gozo you will notice that although both islands are similar in history and development Gozo has a character entirely of its own. Gozo, which is a three hilled island, is greener and more picturesque than Malta. During this excursion, we visit Dwejra, the citadel in Victoria, the bay of Xlendi, and we also stop at a spectacular cultural experience depicting Gozo’s long and colourful history. Free time for shopping will also be given – Gozo is renowned for its woollen goods and handmade lace.

Private Tours

This customised excursion is suitable for guests who have little time available but still wish to catch a glimpse of Malta’s history and culture. Please note that the price includes a licensed guide in the language of your choice and a chauffeur-driven air-conditioned luxury vehicle. Lunch and ferry tickets (where applicable) are not included in the price. Should guests wish to visit museums, kindly note that entrance tickets must be bought directly during the tour.

Sicily Mount Etna and Taormina

On arrival in Pozzallo we proceed by coach through Catania’s via Etna, the main thoroughfare. Our guide will give you a running commentary about the city as well as Mount Etna as we drive up to the Sylvester Craters. There will be ample time for shopping and lunch (this is not included in the price). After Mount Etna we drive to Taormina with its superb panoramic views overlooking Giardini Naxos, a former Greek Colony which is now a well-known yachting centre. There will be free time for shopping followed by a coach trip to Pozzallo and our return trip by catamaran to Malta.
